Hearing a ringing, buzzing, hissing, roaring or whilsting sound in your ears that others do not hear does not mean you are getting crazy. Having ringing ears is a condition more popularly known as tinnitus. This affects both the young and old. Constant trauma to the cochlea can lead to permanent hearing loss.

Ear infections, tumors, meniere's disease, ototoxic drugs, head injuries, hypertension, thyroid disorders, and lyme disease are just a few of the other medical problems that may cause tinnitus. There are about more than 200 drugs that have been identified as ototoxic.

Since tinnitus has many different causes, there are also several treatments available which will depend on what caused the tinnitus. But every tinnitus sufferer should that there is nothing that will cure the tinnitus when the cause of the tinnitus.
