Hyperacusis: I was exposed to a loud noise when a fork-lift battery exploded next to me, at work. Now I have tinnitus that audiologists describe as'catastrophic', hypercausis, nerve damage to middle and inner ear. Loss of hearing of higher pitched noises (womens voices, alarms, phones).

Accident happened just over 1 year ago. Have suffered post traumatic stress and depression ever since. Had nervous breakdown at end of last year. Have not worked, or slept hardly at all since. Currently sueing employers, long legal battle.

Tinnitus is even more unbareable when the weather is muggy, close, or overcast. It makes the tinnitus noise change from 'jet engine'to more 'tinny and whistling'. Have just received digital hearing aids and am on anti depressent Lustral.

Hello Michael,

When one is suddenly exposed to an extremely loud noise such as you were when that forklift battery exploded, the delicate organs in the inner ear such as the cochlea take enormous strain and high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus is almost inevitable.

Whilst this hearing loss cannot be restored, when can help with your sensitivity to sounds and also to reduce the intensity of the catastrophic tinnitus noises you are experiencing.

I have explained Hyperacusis and tinnitus, and how we can help you, in much greater detail in the link below.
