Hyperacusis: I have a constant, very high pitched whine in my left ear. I first noticed the tinnitus noises about 10 years ago and thought it was an electrical problem in my home. I may also have some tinnitus in my right ear, but the left is so "loud" I can't be sure. I've seen audiologists twice and been told it may be a result of listening to very loud rock music when I was young (I'm 54 now). I have noticed that being very tired seems to make the ear ringing worse as does stress. The tinnitus seems to be getting worse anyway. My hearing is in the normal range, but I definitely do not hear as well as I once did. I have trouble in meetings and group situations. I find loud noises, music, etc. intolerable and it causes hearing distortion.
Hello Ilia, The condition you are experiencing is known as HYPERACUSIS. Tinnitus and a sensitivity to loud noises and hearing loss are the result of cochlear damage. Common causes of cochlear damage is exposure to loud noise and as you have indicated, you did listen to very loud rock music, this is almost ceratin to be the cause of your cochlear damage. We do have excellent results in the treatment of this tinnitus and the sensitivity to noises and I have explained this phenomenon and how we can help you in more detail below.
