nerve damage due to working in train railyard with locomotives (noise induced) but does remember being sick with symptoms of the flu about the time the tinnitus started. Please contact me re:this & I will relay info to my husband who has the tinnitus. The tinnitus is severe and very loud at times. He describes it as being next to a 747 jet at times. Sensitive to loud sounds, i.e. ambulance or fire truck sirens.

Hello Christine,

Your husband has been exposed to loud and sudden noses a his workplace and this exposure to loud noise has almost certainly lead to cochlear damage. High frequency hearing loss, tinnitus and reduced tolerance to loud sounds are all symptoms of cochlear damage as a result of exposure to noise.

Your husband most likely had an ear infection at the time he was sick when he recalls the tinnitus started. Tinnitus often needs a trigger, such as stress or an infection to manifest.

We do have excellent results in treating this condition however and he has every reason to be optimistic about getting relief from the tinnitus and Hyperacusis.

Christine, I have discussed tinnitus and hyperacusis in more dteail below.
