Client asked:
Tinnitus: my tinnitus began in June, 2000. I remember it very distinctly. I have experienced allergy and sinus
problems most of my life (I am now 51 yrs old). Early in June, 2000 I experienced an episode of nausea and vertigo. I remember having similar symptoms two months earlier after an afternoon cruise on a casino boat at N. Myrtle Beach.
But those symptoms went away after several days. This time was worse--I was unable to drive and felt that my center of gravity was askew. I consulted my doctor who prescribed Antivert and rest. It took about a week to 10 days to feel better, but after the vertigo and
nausea subsided I began having a high pitched noise in my left ear.
The sound is that of a sirene (fire truck) about two blocks away. I have been back to the doctor several times over the past 4 years about this and he says nothing can be done. He prescribed an antidepressant to help with stress and lack of sleep. I was referred to an ENT who administered hearing tests (very little hearing loss at that time) and confirmed that nothing could be done.
He suggested using a radio at night to sleep, but this created a sleep problem for my husband. Over time, the noise has gradually become much louder and I now have the same noise in the right ear from time to time. Can you PLEASE HELP?
Our Response
Hello L. L.,
Thank you for an excellent description of your tinnitus and the history behind it. When I get detail such as you have supplied it makes it so much easier for me to help you choose the correct tinnitus treatment. Obviously this is important because if you do not take the correct tinnitus relief medication, how can you get lasting effective tinnitus relief?
It is almost certain that you have been suffering with Meniere's disease and the tinnitus that accompanies it. The episodes of nausea and vertigo are typical of Meniere's disease and the high pitched noise that is ringing in your ears is typical of cochlea damage induced tinnitus, which always accompanies Meniere's disease. The fact that you suffered with constant sinus and allergies, over a period of years has probably contributed to cochlea damage induced tinnitus. The fact that the tinnitus noise has increased in intensity, over the years is actually quite common.
It is therefore my recommendation that you take our Meniere's disease course of treatment, which will alleviate the Meniere's symptoms and the tinnitus. Although the Meniere's attacks are sporadic it is still necessary to treat both the Meniere's and the tinnitus.
This Meniere's tinnitus treatment has helped many people get relief and I feel sure that it can help you too.
