Tinnitus from working in high noise enviroments...
Kevin asked:
i am a musian/sound engineer and regularly work in high noise enviroments which I think is causing tinnitus. however i use earplugs whenever possible. the day i first noticed my tinnitus set on was two days after a mixdown session which was quite loud, however i also had come down with the flu and cannot be sure what the cause was. i have had tempory tinnitus before from loud music but this feels different. almost as if my left ear is blocked. it is only in my left ear yet both ears were exposed to the same volume. two weeks later and my ear still feels blocked and a very high frequency ringing is constantly present.
Our Response:
Hello Kevin,
Being a musician means you have been exposed to noise on a continual basis probably for a number of years. It is this constant exposure to noise that often does most damage.
I your case the tinnitus was most likely triggered by the flu and it is also possible that you also had an ear infection at the time.
I have included some very specific information about how you can prevent further aggravation of the tinnitus and further damage to the delicate inner ear organs. When an external sound is experienced the thousands of small hairs in the cochlea are stimulated.
When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these minute hairs move, signals are sent through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as a sound.
The agitation of the hairs in the inner ear can be likened to a field of long grass rippling in time with the wind.
The cilia in the inner ear are easily broken from the huge pressures generated by extreme blasts of sounds. The inner ear damage is all the more amplified if you have played in a band or have worked in a noisy factory for a long time.
These delicate organs can also be damaged from a knock on the head. If damage happens and those tiny hairs are damaged or bent they can send random signals to the brain which are interpreted as noise even though none is present.
Any type of surgery to the head can also result in tinnitus from cochlea damage.
Hearing loss is not reversible but our noise tinnitus remedies have successfully reduced the tinnitus levels of many thousands of tinnitus sufferers.
