Client asked:
My tinnitus started with a sensation of water in my right ear and has moved on to my left ear with a constant tinging, ringing or like coins being dropped. i am 30 years old and had braces taken off about 1 year ago. I recentley started walking and my headphones were going in and out from one side to the other could this be too blame? As a child I had numerous ear infections. I also get cold sores from time too time on the mouth area. please help I am concerned I will damage my hearing
Our Response:
Hello Lori,
Cochlear damage accounts for more than 85% of all known tinnitus types. The cochlea is very easily damaged and if damage to the cochlea has occurred, tinnitus and high frequency hearing loss will indeed be experienced. There are millions of little hairs housed in the cochlea that get affected when you hear an external sound.
When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these minute hairs move, signals are sent through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as a sound.
These microscopic hair cells and those infinitesimal auditory nerves get damaged easily when exposed to loud noises. The damage is made worse if you are a habitual concert goer or have worked in a noisy factory for a long time.
Noise induced cochlear damage tinnitus which can cause a ringing in the ears often is by ear wax removals, a procedure known as ear candling, swimming accidents, sports injuries, head or dental surgery.
Damage to hearing is not reversible however the ringing in the ears remedies have been very successful at dramatically and permanently reducing the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
