Hello Ida,

Those hissing noises you are hearing from tinnitus is most likley to be from cochlear damage. Tinnitus of this sort is known as Type 4 tinnitus and is caused from cochlear damage as a result of a blow to the head or exposure to noise.

Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also caused by scuba diving accidents, swimming incidents, ear wax removals etc.

Damage to hearing is incurable however the tinnitus treatments have been very successful at reducing the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
