My tinnitus is a ringing in the ears that varies from mild to moderate. About 18 months ago I had problems with eustachian tubes an infection or allergy. Took Paxil for a year and quit it over a year ago. Work under a great deal of stress in law enforcement, fire fighting and search and rescue type situations. Drive many miles on bumpy unimproved roads at moderate speeds often with the windows open. Had chiropractic treatment on neck for an alignment problem. Have had severe blows to the side of the head.
Occasionally work around sewer plants and exposed to noxious gases such as methane and hydrogen sulfide. Exposed to chlorine fumes when handling liquid chlorine and chlorine dioxide. Fight forest fires and exposed to smoke for long periods and possibly exposed to toxic materials from illegal dumpsites that burn in the process, most notably, lead acid batteries. Spray pesticides, most often "Roundup" (glyphosate), in large quantities with proper protective equipment. Have noticed I am clenching my teeth a lot, presumably due to stress.

Hello William,
From your detailed description of your tinnitus as well as your work
place I am almost certain you are suffering from Type 4 tinnitus. Exposure to loud noise, a blow to the head are the main causes of this type of tinnitus and stress certainly will aggravate noise induced or cochlear damage tinnitus.When an external noise is experienced the many thousands of little hairs in the cochlea are stimulated.
When a noise is heard by the ears and these small hairs move, signals are sent through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as a noise.
These minute hair cells and those infinitesimal auditory nerves are easy to break when subjected to sudden loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a noisy place or frequent very loud clubs over a period of time will suffer further damage.
These sensitive organs can also be damaged from a knock on the head. If damage happens and the cilia are damaged or bent they can send random impluses to the brain which are interpreted as a sound even though none is present.
Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also often a result of scuba diving accidents, swimming incidents, ear wax removals etc.
Hearing loss is not reversible but our cochlear damage remedies have successfully lowered the tinnitus levels of many thousands of tinnitus sufferers.
