My tinnitus noises are a constant high-pitched sonic tone which is particularly loud in my right ear. All the members of my family are tinnitus sufferers to some extent, but until very recently mine has not bothered me as long as there has been some background noise to mask it. This last few weeks though it the tinnitus noise has become what I can only describe as sonic, to the extent that I can almost 'feel' the noise. I can't pinpoint a cause for this step change, I haven't been to any loud concerts or played music loudly it has just happened. The tinnitus can be so bad that I can't get to sleep for it. I would be so grateful for any suggestions you have. Thanks and kind regards Debbie...

Hello Debbie,
The tinnitus noise you are hearing does seem to me to be typical of cochlear damage tinnitus. One does not necessarily need to be exposed to loud noise to have cochlea damage, there are actually many situations and conditions that can lead to cochlea damage which in turn will lead to high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus.
