I am 71 years old and have lived with tinnitus for probably 50 years along with a occasional full feeling in the ear, the right ear is more predominate. I was exposed to loud noises years ago. As I grow older the ringing gets louder which caused headaches and that full feeling in both ears. My e.n.t says there is not a fluid problem in the ears. The tinnitus is both pulsitile and steady high pitch ring. I have also been taking high blood pressure medication for the past 25 yrs.

Some damage to the cochlea in then inner ear occurs naturally as one ages and this cochlea damage is responsible most most cases of tinnitus. You were exposed to loud noises many years ago and this would also have caused damage to the cochlea. Tinnitus and high frequency loss of hearing can and often do occur when cochlea damage occurs.A little known fact is that there are literally millions of tiny hairs in the cochlea that are influenced by sound waves as a result of external noise.
When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these small hairs start moving, signals are sent through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as sound.
The movements of the hairs in the cochlea can be likened to a field of long grass rippling in tune with the breeze.
These microscopic hair cells and those delicate auditory nerves get damaged easily when subjected to loud noises. The inner ear damage is all the more amplified if you are a habitual concert goer or worked in a loud environment for a long time.
Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also caused by scuba diving accidents, swimming pool incidents, removals of ear wax etc.
Hearing loss is most certainly incurable nevertheless the tinnitus treatments have been very successful at reducing the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.You could probably control that feeling of fullness in the ears, or ear pressure, by following a low salt diet.
We do have very good results in treating tinnitus from cochlea damage which we refer to as Type 4 tinnitus.
