Client Asked:
Tinnitus started beginning of March had an upper respitory infection. Doctor prescribed Zithromax. One and one-half weeks later flew to St. Martin. While on vacation kept getting water in my ear from hand-held shower. The other possibility, went to a play at the end of April, sat close to the front, speakers very loud. Don't quite remember when the ear ringing started, but definately within the last three months.
Our Response:
Hello Ruth,
It is very likely that your tinnitus is as result of a middle or inner ear infection at the time flight to St. Martin and that this has caused some cochlear damage. This type of infection can often go unnoticed but is sometimes responsible for much damage in the inner ear. There are thousands of small hairs housed in the inner ear that get affected when you hear an external sound.
When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these small hairs start moving, impulses go streaking through the nerve which your brain interprets as a sound.
Agition then result in a movement of all those little hair nerve cells, much like a field of wheat on a farm shifting in concert with the wind.
The hairs in the cochlea are easily broken from the huge pressures generated by sudden bursts of sounds. The damage is all the more amplified if you have played in a band or have worked in a noisy factory for a long time.
These delicate organs can also be damaged from a knock on the head. If damage happens and the cilia are broken or bent they can send random signals to the brain which are interpreted as a sound even though none is present.
Any type of surgery to the head can also result in hearing loss.
Loss of hearing is not reversible but our noise tinnitus remedies have successfully reduced the tinnitus levels of many thousands of tinnitus sufferers.
Being exposed to loud noise at the school play would further aggravate that cochlear damage resulting in the high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus.
