The tinnitus sounds are a constant clicking when I swallow or yawn, I feel like my ears are 'clogged up' most of the time. I feel like, at times, there is quite a bit of pressure in my ears leading down the sides of my neck. I can remember the 'clicking' thing started about 6 years ago(following an ear infection) and seems to have gotten worse over the years. I have more pressure when I lean my head down, like to pick up something off the floor or tie my shoes, etc...

Hello Julie,
The clogged up feeling or ear pressure you are getting could be a mild form of Meniere's Disease but luckily you are not suffering from vertigo or nausea and you could very likely relieve the pressure by following a low sodium diet.There are thousands of little hairs housed in the inner ear that move when you perceive an external sound.
Whenever an external sound is picked up the minute hairs sway and send impulses via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
The agitation of the hairs in the inner ear can be likened to a field of grass rippling in tune with the wind.
These microscopic hair cells and those delicate auditory nerves get damaged easily when exposed to sudden loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a noisy place or visit noisy clubs over a period of time will suffer more damage.
The inner ear and its delicate structures are also damaged by a strong blow to the head Our cilia often get bent out of shape or even broken and then randomly transmit electric pulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a noise, although there is no sound present.
Noise related cochlear damage tinnitus which can cause a ringing in the ears often is caused ear wax removals, ear candling, swimming incidents, hurting yourself playing sports, head or dental surgery.

It is likely that the ear infection did cause cochlear damage and that this is the root cause of your tinnitus.
