My tinnitus started on the day when I got very sick. My ears were blocked but I didn't have a bad flu(I wasn't sniffing or blowing my nose a lot). I moved from my apartment a year ago and I have never had any problems with my ear being blocked while living in the apartment because the temperature in the apartment was either hot or warm throughout the whole year whether it is winter or summer. It has never been blocked before but when I moved into a house, the house is a lot colder (I am always freezing in the winter)and this caused a scrathing sound or may be a whoosing sound that was really really low but a month ago, I got very sick and my temperature was high and my ears were blocked and I started to hear many noises.
The description of the noise is like the refregerator or computer noise and the pitch keeps going up and down the whole time and the whoosing sound got higher and there is a third sound that is also like the computer noise but someimes it vanished and sometimes it comes back and sometimes it is very high. When I walk up, the sound seems at its lowest especially the third sound that comes and go but the other two sounds were at the beginning come and go but then now it is almost stable. Please tell me what to do.

Hello Jacklin,
The tinnitus noises you are describing, as well as the other symptoms of your tinnitus leads me to believe that you have suffered from cochlear damage. This was caused probably by an ear infection. Often one will get an ear infection that can cause major damage to the delicate inner ear structures, and not even know that you have had an infection. This seems to be the case with you as you said your ears were blocked but it didn't seem like a major flu or infection.
We do have excellent success with this tinnitus type Jacklin so you have every reason to be optimistic about getting relief from the tinnitus. It will take some time and you will need to be patient but you can get rid of tinnitus.There are thousands of little hairs housed in the cochlea that get affected when you perceive noise.
Whenever an external noise is detected the tiny hairs move and send impulses via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a sound by your brain.
Agition then cause a stirring of all those minuscule hair nerve cells, very similar to a field of wheat on a farm moving in tune with the wind.
The hairs in the inner ear are easily broken from the pressures generated by extreme blasts of sounds. The damage is made worse if you are a band member or have worked in a loud environment for a long time.
Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also caused by scuba diving accidents, swimming pool incidents, removals of ear wax etc.
Damage to hearing is most certainly incurable nevertheless the ringing in the ears treatments have been very successful at dramatically and permanently lowering the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
