Client Asked:
I met with an accident 4 month back .On that day onwards I am suffering from Tinnitus in the right ear. Damage happened to right ear. There is little hearing loss. It is very little. Only in the auditory testing they figured out. But for me it looks normal. Doctor advised me to go for scanning of temporal bones.
Found the following issues:
1) Evidence of longitudinal linear lucency, roof of external auditory canal, right mastoid extending in to the middle ear involving the incudo malleal joint - longitudinal fractures
2) Ossicles appear displaced laterally, minimal soft tissue density collection around the incuddo malleal area
3) Evidence of soft tissue density and bony specks in epitymponic recess(seg 19) and ? 1st genu of facial canal -contusion
Facial Canal problem is resolved. My eyes are closing properly and every thing is normal.
But I am not getting because of what problem I am suffering from Tinnitus.
Could you please let me know the reason for the tinnitus and if there is any medicine to treat tinnitus please let me know.
Our Response:
Hello Kiran,
The cause of your tinnitus is without doubt the damage caused to your cochlea as a result of a severe blow to right hand side of the head when you had motor accident. There are millions of tiny hairs situated in the inner ear that get affected when you perceive an external sound.
Whenever an external sound is detected the tiny hairs move and send impulses via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
These little hair cells and those delicate auditory nerves get damaged easily when exposed to sudden loud noises. The damage is all the more amplified if you have played in a band or worked in a loud environment for a long time.
The inner ear and its delicate structures are also damaged by a severe blow to the head The tiny hairs often get bent out of shape or broken and then randomly produce electric pulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a noise, although there is no sound present.
Noise related cochlear damage tinnitus which can cause a ringing in the ears often is a result of ear wax removals, ear candling, swimming incidents, hurting yourself playing sports, head or dental surgery.
Hearing loss is incurable however the tinnitis treatments have been very successful at lowering the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
