Tinnitus from cochlear damage such as you are experiencing sometimes just starts up when something or other acts as a trigger. It is possible to have suffered the damage many years before as indeed seems to be the case with you. Often this trigger will be something a bad cold or era infection, severe stress or even further exposure to noise.A little known fact is that there are thousands of diminutive hairs in the cochlea that are affected by sound waves caused by external noise.

When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these minute hairs move, impulses go streaking through the nerve which your brain interprets as a sound.

Agition then cause a movement of all those minuscule hair nerve cell, very similar to a field of wheat on a farm shifting in tune with the wind.

These small hair cells and those infinitesimal auditory nerves get damaged easily when subjected to sudden loud noises. The inner ear damage is made worse if you have played in a band or have worked in a loud environment for a long time.

The cochlea and its delicate structures are also easily damaged by a strong blow to the head If damage occurs and the cilia are broken or bent they can send random impluses to the brain which are interpreted as noise even though none is present.

Noise induced cochlear damage tinnitus which can cause a ringing in the ears often is by ear wax removals, a procedure known as ear candling, swimming accidents, sports injuries, dental surgery.
