Hi, I used to get tinnitus when I had severe ear wax buildup, my ear passages are slightly narrow apparantly, however the tinnitus would stop when I got the ears syringed however i left it for too long, about a month I recall and the ringing didn't stop when I got flushed out. It stayed the same for about 2 yrs but has been getting a little worse lately, I keep my ear passages cleaner now.

It would appear that you have suffered from damage to the cochlea in the inner ear that is causing your tinnitus. It is also likely that you have suffered some hearing loss in the higher frequencies as a result of the damage to the cochlea.There are millions of tiny hairs situated in the inner ear that move when you perceive an external sound.

Whenever an external noise is picked up the minute hairs sway and send impulses through the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.

Agition then cause a movement of all those little hair nerve cells, much like a field of wheat on a farm swaying in time with the wind.

These small hair cells and those easily damaged auditory nerves are easy to break when subjected to loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a very loud environment or frequent very loud places over a period of time will experience further damage.

The cochlea and its delicate structures are also damaged by a severe blow to the head If damage happens and those tiny hairs are damaged or bent they can send random signals to the brain which are interpreted as noise even though none is present.

Any type of surgery to the head can also result in hearing loss.

Damage to hearing is not reversible nevertheless the tinnitus treatments have been very successful at dramatically and permanentlylowering the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.

This type of damage can easily happen as a result of ear wax removals if the procedure is not carried out carefully. It is the shock and noise that actually do all the damage.
