Tinnitus started three years ago. I suffered inner ear and middle ear infections and was treated with several antibiotics. I had a hard time in my life and suffered from stress. After the infections were gone, the tone in my head (not in my ears) stayed. It is hard to describe, it is more high than low and it is just like the 'sound' you had when you went to partys with the music too loud on and the 'sound'in your head stayed for one day and then dissappeared. But the 'tone' is in my head nonstop and I suffer from it especially when it is silent and go to bed or wake up. During the day with lots of stimuli I don't hear it.

Tinnitus as a result of having inner and middle ear infections as you had is known as Type 4 tinnitus.There are millions of tiny hairs situated in the inner ear that get affected when you perceive an external sound.

As and when an external sound is detected the minute hairs move and send signals through the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.

These little hair cells and those easily damaged auditory nerves are easy to break when exposed to sudden loud noises. The damage is made worse if you are a habitual concert goer or worked in a loud environment for a long time.

The cochlea and its delicate structures are also damaged by a strong blow to the head The tiny hairs often get bent out of shape or even broken and then randomly transmit electric pulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a noise, although there is no sound present.

Any type of surgery to the head can also result in hearing loss.
