Obviously that sudden and unexpected blast of very loud music through the headphones caused some damage to the cochlea in the inner ear and this is damage to the cochlea is what is causing the high pitched ear ringing you have experienced ever since. It is also likely that you have suffered some hearing loss in the higher frequencies.When an external noise is experienced the thousands of small hairs in the inner ear are stimulated.

When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these minute hairs move, impulses go streaking through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as a noise.

Agition then cause a movement of all those minute hair nerve cells, much like a field of wheat on a farm shifting in time with the wind.

These microscopic hair cells and those infinitesimal auditory nerves are easy to break when exposed to loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a very loud environment or visit very noisy clubs over a period of time will suffer more damage.

Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also often caused by scuba diving accidents, swimming incidents, ear wax removals etc.
