I do agree with you that your tinnitus is being caused by exposure to noise. The tinnitus is is actually a result of cochlear damage.
The ears and inner ear structures are so sensitive and delicate that damage can happen quite easily. Tinnitus from cochlear damage is also often accompanied by hearing loss in the higher frequencies.
The fact that you were exposed to loud noise during the time that you worked around fighter aircraft confirms that your tinnitus is a result of cochlear damage.There are millions of tiny hairs situated in the cochlea that move when you hear noise.
When a noise is heard by the ears and these small hairs start moving, signals are sent through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as sound.
These little hair cells and those delicate auditory nerves are easy to break when subjected to loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a very loud environment or frequent noisy places over a period of time will suffer further damage.
The inner ear and its delicate structures are also easily damaged by a strong blow to the head If damage happens and the cilia are damaged or bent they can send random signals to the brain which are interpreted as noise even though none is present.
Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also often caused by scuba diving accidents, swimming pool incidents, ear wax removals etc.
Damage to hearing is not reversible however the tinnitis remedies have been very successful at dramatically and permanently reducing the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
