Exposure to loud noise is a major and very common cause of cochlear damage which results in tinnitus.When an external sound is experienced the thousands of small hairs in the cochlea are stimulated.

Whenever an external noise is picked up the tiny hairs move and send signals via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
