Tinnitus from noise...
Richard Asked:
I have been exposed to loud noise, what tinnitus is that?
Our Response:
Hello Clyde,
When one is exposed to loud noises the delicate inner ear organs such as the cochlea can be damaged leading to high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus.
A little known fact is that there are literally millions
of tiny hairs in the cochlea that are influenced by sound waves caused by external sound. As and when an external noise is detected the tiny hairs sway and send impulses through the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
The movements of the hairs in the cochlea can be likened to a field of grass moving in tune with the wind.
These little hair cells and those delicate auditory nerves are easy to break when subjected to loud noises. The damage is made worse if you are a band member or have worked in a loud environment for a long time.
Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also often a result of scuba diving accidents, swimming pool incidents, ear wax removals etc.
Hearing loss is not reversible nevertheless the tinnitus remedies have been very successful at dramatically and permanently reducing the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
