Tinnitus from noise...

Hello Doc, my name is Paul and I dont seem to be able to access the further information on type 4.
I have tried for several years various remedies without success. I work in sound for TV and Films and have won awards.
I do not listen at high volumes and I love or used to love the point at which the final part of reverb falls into silence.
This was taken away from me about six years ago when I first noticed the whistle in my head!
I would love to talk to you in some detail and an excuse to maybe visit SA.I look forward to hearing from you.

I am truly sorry to hear that you are suffering with tinnitus and you are quite correct in your thinking
you are suffering with Cochlea damage induced - type 4 tinnitus.
As you work in sound for TV and film, this would certainly confirm that your condition is as a result of the exposure to
noise over a fair period of time - unfortunately this condition happens to many in your line of work.
There are millions of tiny hairs housed in the cochlea that get affected when you perceive noise.
When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these minute hairs start moving, signals go streaking through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as sound.
The agitation of the hairs in the cochlea can be likened to a field of long grass rippling in time with the breeze.
These small hair cells and those easily damaged auditory nerves are easy to break when subjected to sudden loud noises. The inner ear damage is made worse if you are a habitual concert goer or have worked in a noisy factory for a long time.
Noise induced cochlear damage tinnitus which can cause a ringing in the ears often is a result of ear wax removals, a procedure known as ear candling, swimming accidents, hurting yourself playing sports, dental surgery.
Damage to hearing is most certainly not reversible nevertheless the tinnitis treatments have been very successful at dramatically and permanentlyreducing the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
I think that it must be wonderful working in this field - is it as exciting as one imagines?
You must be so proud having won awards - that is just great!
