Hum - like a flourscent light...?
Client asked:
Last year I had fullness in my ear. The doctor treated me but the tinninus remained. The tinnitus I have is a constant hum - like a flourscent light.
I have had no further problems with ear fullness BUT when I occassionaly swim my ear PAINS which makes me think I have some eardrum damage. Of course, the ENT was of no help....
Our Response:
Hello Greg,
The fullness in the ear is normally a symptom experienced with Meniere's Disease. You seem to be one of the fortunate ones in that it ws not too bad and now seems to be under control.
These symptoms can also be controlled by eating correctly and indeed we have a page devoted entirely to just such a diet.
It is obvious that due to the exposure to noise you have suffered some cochlear damage and this is what is causing the ongoing tinnitus.A little known fact is that there are literally millions of diminutive hairs in the cochlea that are affected by sound waves as a result of external noise.
As and when an external sound is detected the minute hairs sway and send signals via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
The agitation of the hairs in the inner ear can be likened to a field of long grass moving in tune with the wind.
The hairs in the cochlea are easily damaged from the huge pressures generated by sudden bursts of sounds. The inner ear damage is made worse if you are a band member or worked in a noisy factory for a long time.
Any type of surgery to the head can also cause noise induced tinnitus.
Loss of hearing is not reversible but our noise tinnitus remedies have successfully reduced the tinnitus levels of many thousands of tinnitus sufferers.
