It is almost certain that you have suffered from cochlear damage likely as a result of inner ear infection during the time of your plane trip. The fact that you have had it for longer that 5 years definitely confirms the cochlear damage. You probably have some hearing loss as well in the high frequencies.Did you know that there are literally millions of small hairs in the inner ear that are moved by the great pressures of sound waves as a result of external sound.

As and when an external sound is detected the minute hairs sway and send signals via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.

Agition then cause a movement of all those minuscule hair nerve cells, much like a field of wheat on a farm shifting in time with the wind.

The hairs in the inner ear are easily damaged from the huge pressures generated by sudden bursts of sounds. The damage is made worse if you have played in a band or have worked in a loud environment for a long time.
