Exposed to Loud Noises
Our Response:
Hello Vijai,
Thank you for your email regarding noise induced tinnitus. This phenomenom is becoming a major problem around the world as more and more people become exposed to loud noises. When an external noise is experienced the many thousands of small hairs in the cochlea are stimulated.
As and when an external sound is detected the tiny hairs move and send signals via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
Agition then cause a movement of all those little hair nerve cells, very similar to a field of wheat on a farm shifting in tune with the wind.
The cilia in the cochlea are easily broken from the huge pressures generated by extreme blasts of sounds. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a very loud environment or frequent very loud pubs over a period of time will experience more damage.
Noise related cochlear damage tinnitus which can cause a ringing in the ears often is by ear wax removals, a procedure known as ear candling, swimming incidents, hurting yourself playing sports, dental surgery.
Hearing loss is incurable however the tinnitis treatments have been very successful at dramatically and permanentlylowering the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
