Client Asked:
My tinnitus started after I recently had an ear infection and had it treated at the clinic. The doctor syringed my ear and I had a large wax build up which was removed. I have had no pain since and never had sores.
The tinnitus is a high pitched ringing tone, pretty much on a daily basis. I have had root canals in the past and have mercury fillings that are 20 years old. I also grind my teeth in my sleep which causes migraines.
Our Response:
Hello Lyndsay,
The tinnitus you are experiencing is almost certainly cochlear damage tinnitus. This is the most common form of tinnitus and the sad thing is that it could be avoided. The cochlear damage and resultant high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus is caused as a result of the shock and noise of the era wac removal if this procedure is not done correctly.Did you know that there are literally millions of small hairs in the inner ear that are moved by the great pressures of sound waves as a result of external sound.
As and when an external sound is detected the minute hairs sway and send signals via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
Agition then cause a movement of all those minuscule hair nerve cells, much like a field of wheat on a farm shifting in time with the wind.
The hairs in the inner ear are easily damaged from the huge pressures generated by sudden bursts of sounds. The damage is made worse if you have played in a band or have worked in a loud environment for a long time.
The cochlea and its delicate structures are also easily damaged by a severe blow to the head The tiny hairs often get bent out of shape or broken and then randomly transmit electric pulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a noise, although there is no sound present.
