Hello Carla,

I am glad to hear from you, as it is best to treat tinnitus as soon as possible. You mention cochlea damage, this is the most common type of tinnitus and unfortunately from my experience it does seem to intensify over time. However we have an 85% success rate in treating this particular type of tinnitus. Tinnitus does not normally cause one to go deaf but it does however affect ones hearing and it feels as if you could have hearing loss - however as the tinnitus is relieved, the hearing improves as well. I would strongly recommend that you start treating your tinnitus straight away.There are thousands of little hairs housed in the cochlea that get affected when you perceive noise.

When a noise is heard by the ears and these minute hairs start moving, signals are sent through the nerve which your brain interprets as sound.

These little hair cells and those easily damaged auditory nerves are easy to break when exposed to loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a very loud environment or visit very loud places over a period of time will suffer further damage.

These sensitive organs can also be damaged from a knock on the head. If damage happens and those tiny hairs are damaged or bent they can send random impluses to the brain which are interpreted as a sound even though none is present.
