No hearing in left ear, happened overnight, then the tinitus. Ear doctor gave me steroids, they did not help.
Our Response:
Hello Pat,
I am so sorry to hear about your hearing loss and tinnitus. It seems you have one heck of a year! It is my hope that we can help you make the next year a better one...
It is almost certain that somewhere along the line you suffered cochlear damage. The cochlea is a delicate organ in the inner ear that can easily be damaged by a blow to the head, dental surgery and the taking of certain medications. There are thousands of little hairs situated in the cochlea that get affected when you perceive noise.
Whenever an external noise is detected the tiny hairs sway and send signals via the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
The movements of the hairs in the cochlea can be likened to a field of long grass rippling in time with the wind.
These microscopic hair cells and those delicate auditory nerves get damaged easily when subjected to loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a noisy place or frequent noisy places over a period of time will experience more damage.
These delicate organs can also be damaged from a knock on the head. The tiny hairs often get bent out of shape or even broken and then randomly send impulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a sound, although there is no sound present.
Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also often caused by scuba diving accidents, swimming pool incidents, ear wax removals etc.
Damage to hearing is most certainly incurable however the tinnitis remedies have been very successful at lowering the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
