It is more likely that the flu you had has caused Cochlea damage which has resulted in the tinnitus. Many medications can cause tinnitus as a side effect, however all medication is supplied with some form of literature and this will list any and all possible side effects. In other words the Pharmaceutical companies are protecting themselves, against any possible lawsuits.

Whenever an external sound is picked up the minute hairs sway and send impulses through the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a noise by your brain.
Agition then cause a movement of all those minute hair nerve cells, very similar to a field of wheat on a farm moving in time with the wind.
