Toni asked:
My tinnitus details are; 7 weeks ago I woke up with a high pitch noise in my left ear. I have had a MRI and hearing test. My MRI came back normal. My hearing test came back normal except at the high frequency range. The left side is worse.
At first my ear doctor thought it was an inner ear viral infection, however, the MRI came back normal. He now thinks it could be (1) because of high frequency hearing loss (2) high frequency hearing loss because of an infection or (3) Meniere's, however, he really doesn't feel it is Meniere's but he said he has to keep an open-mind.
My gut level feeing is some type of infection. I want to also mention my father has high frequency loss (born with it)in his left ear and he does NOT have tinnitus.
I don't really think my doctor knows the cause. I really think it came on as a result of some type of infection because I had been really tired before the tinnitus came on.
Please direct me on which type of T-Gone you would recommend.
Our Response:
Hello Toni,
For what it is worth, I certainly do not believe that you have Meniere's Disease. The dizziness and nausea and the feeling of pressure in the ears that go with a typical Meniere's Disease attack are simply impossible to ignore!
One does experience tinnitus with Meniere's Disease, this is normally a lasting effect, whilst the dizziness and nausea come in waves or attcks that leave one feeling exhausted and in need of sleep.
The fact that you have high frequency hearing loss along with your tinnitus does indicate cochlear damage and this is referred to as Type 4 tinnitus.
We certainly have excellent results with Type 4 tinnitus and I have included more information below. There are thousands of tiny hairs housed in the inner ear that get affected when you hear an external sound.
When a noise is heard by the ears and these minute hairs move, impulses go streaking through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as noise.
Agition then cause a movement of all those minuscule hair nerve cells, much like a field of wheat on a farm swaying in tune with the wind.
These microscopic hair cells and those tiny auditory nerves are easy to break when exposed to loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a noisy place or frequent very loud clubs over a period of time will experience more damage.
Any type of surgery to the head can also result in hearing loss.
Hearing loss is incurable nevertheless the ringing in the ears treatments have been very successful at lowering the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
