Tinnitus: I have a swishing hissing sound in my right ear, sometimes gets to such a pitch the swishing feels like a washing machine in a spin, I developed this 18 months ago, and was diagnosed with and rhinnitis given steroid nasal drops and anti histamines which seemed to settle it for a while and I was reduced to a level of noise I could cope with, recently I recently tried accapucture, where a electrode was placed on the needle, I now feel this has made matters worse, and have now been off work with this, I am also under much stress at work, and have now got myself into a terrified state thinking I have made matters worse by having 3 sessions of accapucture, the noise varies in sound from real loud hissing, swishing to low hissing. I also have a drainage cyst on my gum and am afraid to go to dentist in case drilling makes matters even worse, I also read on your website about pulsating tinnitis which I sometimes here and this is said to be related to cholestorol I am now totally confused as to which type I have can you help
Our Response:
Hello Margaret,
Although you were diagnosed with blocked Eustachian tubes I feel that your tinnitus is caused from cochlear damage as the tinnitus has worsened after acupuncture with an electrode attached. It is also possible that you are suffering from tinnitus as a result of the antihistamines you took to treat the rhinitis.
I have explained both of these phenomena in more detail in the links below and I believe it is probably a good idea for you to take both remedies in conjunction with each other to properly treat you tinnitus.
