Client asked:
I have Sinus, Allergies and Nasal Problems... and a very loud ringing in my ears. Could all this be related to tinnitus?
Our Response:
Hello James,
Tinnitus caused as a result of sinus or allergy problems normally stem from the prescription and over the counter medications we take to treat these conditions. It's very ordinary for people who have sinus problems to occasionally experience tinnitus symptoms. This is because the mucous builds up and eventually blocks the inner ear canal which causes pressure and leads to the ear ringing symptoms. This added build up of pressure can not only cause tinnitus but also some inner ear infections.Sufferers of sinusitis, rhinitis and allergies will sure enough at some point in their lives hear tinnitus noises. Tinnitus from sinus may also be caused by your body reacting to drugs, antibiotics or antihistamines. After long periods of being on antibiotics or antihistamines to control the sinus problems tinnitus is often noticed. It is the antibiotics and antihistamines that cause the mucous in the inner ear to become too thick and viscous to easily drain away through the very small Eustachian tubes. Due to the Eustachian tubes being very small this added build up of mucous in the inner ear canal will start causing problems and maybe even tinnitus.
