I started noticing the tinnitus about 3 weeks ago when I thought it was in both ears. I first tried to treat it by cleaning my ears out (warm water and peroxide and ear candling) from which I discovered significant ear wax buildup.
The left ear became even moreclogged and I went to see the doctor. He informed me that the left eardrum was 90% blocked with a chunk of wax and removed it; however, the right ear was clear.
The tinnitus seems to have disappeared from the left ear; however, it is still present in the right ear. The tinnitus is described as a high pitched tone that I can only hear significantly if I concentrate on it or are in a totally quiet environment.
Tinnitus doesn't appear to interrupt my sleep (I sleep with a fan on) or daily activities. I do have frequent anxiety and sometimes have anxiety attacks (mostly in mornings after waking).
I have been taking low dosage (1mg-1.5mg) of lorazepam for 2 years now to help with the anxiety and it appears to work; however, I am concerned that the lorazepam may be causing the tinnitus while combating the stress. I am not certain when the tinnitus began as I have noticed it off and on for at least a couple of years but it is only in the last month that I have begun focusing on it and noticing that it is always there now.
