Tinnitus: My tinnitus symtoms developed a few months after fitting a digital hearing aid inside the ear tunnel. Could loudness of the noise caused tinnitus? or other reasons, such as a brain tumour?

Hello Donald,

I really do not think that you need to worry about a brain tumour, it is not at all common for a brain tumour to be the cause of tinnitus. Donald, it is far more likely that exposure to loud noise has caused your tinnitus. In fact this is a major and very common cause of tinnitus.Did you know that there are thousands of tiny hairs in the inner ear that are affected by sound waves caused by external sound.

When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these minute hairs start moving, impulses go streaking through the nerve which your brain interprets as a noise.

The agitation of the hairs in the cochlea can be likened to a field of grass moving in time with the wind.

These little hair cells and those tiny auditory nerves get damaged easily when exposed to sudden loud noises. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a very loud environment or frequent very loud pubs over a period of time will suffer more damage.

Any type of surgery to the head can also cause tinnitus from cochlea damage.
