I have had minor tinnitus problems with ringing like this in the past but never for this extended period of time...

Client asked:

Tinnitus: This particular tinnitus instance started about 3 months ago, in about Oct. 2004. I have had minor tinnitus problems with ringing like this in the past but never for this extended period of time. I had a short problem with it about this same time last year but to the best of my memory it went away in a few days. This ringing (high pitched and sort of pulsating) is in just my right ear. I have always suffered with problems with this ear ever since I was a youngester (I am now 55), mostly what was in the old days referred to as an ear ache.

Not this year, but in recent years past I have had instances when my right ear would get to hurting so bad that I could not hardly stand to even touch my right ear lobe. This ear is also, very sensitive to any air or wind blowing on or in it. I have had to go home from work many times and after I would eat and lay down and rest and sleep the pain would general either go away or be greatly reduced. When these pain instances occured I was usually under stress (and run-down from work) and it seems that there was problems with the temperature in my office being either to hot or to cool and trying to get the temperature properly regulated.

Let me say that I do shoot guns when hunting. I usually always wear Remington 31 rated hearing protectors when just shooting or when sighting my guns in. I do not, of course, wear any hearing protection when I am actually hunting. I groundhog hunt thru the spring and summer and then I squirrel, turkey & dear hunt during the fall. I have shot 5 deer so far this season beginning about the first of Nov. 2004.

An ear, nose, & throat specialist that I went to recently seemed to think that the ear ringing was related t o my shooting of guns, but I don't know that that is the case in light of the long history of problems I have had with this ear and the fact that the ringing is in just the right ear (the one I have always had problems with). A couple of years ago an M.D. told me that he thought I had TMJ. I have never had anyone give me a definitive answer as to wheather I really have TMJ, but I tend to think that I probably do.

Let me mention that I did recently use some Murine to clean the wax from both of my ears. The right ear did appear to have a good bit of wax while as far as I could tell the left ear had little or none. Also, I am taking (for about the past 6 years) 300 Mg of Neurotin for pain that I suffer from a hernia surgery 18 years ago and I also take OTC Prilosec for my acid reflux, which has been giving me bad problems for about the past 5 to 6 years. I have to take the Prilosec each and every day or my acid reflux will come back and has several time made me think I was having a heart attack.

I am wondering if one, both or the combination of these medicines are a contributing factor in this ear ringing. Also, over the years the doctors have told me that I have border-line high blood pressure. But they have never (so far) insisted on giving me anything for it. Also, my family physician said that I had somewhat LOW good colesterol and started me on one medicine for it, but it did not work to his satisfaction and he then wanted me to start on another kind but I did not starting taking it because I was already taking the Neurotin and the Prilosec.

Also, I have in this past year had a good bit of work done on my teeth including two crown placements, one of which included a root canal (on the right upper side of my jaw - the same side that I have the ear ringing on). I vividly remember that the placement of the crown (not the root canal) was accomplished by a GREAT deal of low pitched grinding or whatever on the upper right back tooth area (It was so hard that it made me see a floater in my right eye for a while as it was being done and for a little while afterwards.

I am scheduled to go to an oral surgeon next week to hopefully get a firm diagnosis of wheather I have TMJ or not. I am wondering if this problem could be arthritus related. I have a problem with my right hip in the fall and winter whenever we have a cold rainy spell. I know this is a lot to analyze so please e-mail me if you have any questions. Thank you very much.

Our response:

Hello James,

I thank you for the detailed information regarding your tinnitus and the history behind it. Detail such as this makes it so much easier for me to help you choose the correct tinnitus relief remedy. It is very important to treat the root cause of one's tinnitus in order to achieve effective lasting tinnitus relief. When an external sound is experienced the many thousands of little hairs in the inner ear are stimulated.

When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these minute hairs start moving, impulses are sent through the nerve which your brain interprets as noise.

Agition then result in a movement of all those minuscule hair nerve cells, much like a field of wheat on a farm swaying in concert with the wind.

The hairs in the inner ear are easily broken from the pressures generated by extreme blasts of sounds. Obviously those that are unfortunate enough to work in a very loud environment or frequent very loud clubs over a period of time will suffer more damage.

These sensitive organs can also be damaged from a knock on the head. Our cilia often get bent out of shape or broken and then randomly transmit electric pulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a noise, although there is no sound present.

Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also often a result of scuba diving accidents, swimming incidents, ear wax removals etc.

Loss of hearing is not reversible but our cochlear damage remedies have successfully lowered the ear ringing levels of many thousands of tinnitus sufferers.

There is definitely not "one size fits all" treatment for the relief of tinnitus. As the inner ear structures are very delicate and sensitive there is no doubt that you have cochlea damage which results in tinnitus.
